Life's Sweet Moments

Once in a while we experience one of those moments where we get a small glimpse of how good our life really is and all that we truly have to be grateful for. Last night was one of those moments for me as Nick and I got to tell Carson and Spencer that they are going to be big brothers in March. They were both so excited and immediately wanted to introduce themselves through my belly button. Because of the 2 previous miscarriages this year we've waited until I was further along (I'm nearing week 11) before we told them. But as that 12 week milestone approaches and I continue to feel the effects of the first trimester I'm becoming more reassured that we will blessed one more time.

Catch of the day

Earlier last week Nick went on a deep sea fishing trip that left from Westport Wa, with a family friend and brought home this 12 lb. salmon (apparently it was not nearly as big as "the one that got away" earlier in the day). He filleted it in the backyard with the boys looking on which further solidified dad's cool status in their minds. I know doing laundry just does not rank with cutting off a fish head or using a chainsaw (see boys staring in awe below).

Triple Birthday Party

Last Saturday we had a triple birthday party for Carson who turned 5 on July 26th, our cousin Tyler Jones who turned 4 on the 17th of August and Spencer who will be 3 on August 30th. We began the day at a place Erin had rented called KidzBounce, where the kids, parents and grandparents ran crazy and jumped non-stop for an hour and a half. You can how sweaty and red faced they all were by the end.

We then headed over to Grandma and Grandpa Oliver's house for a BBQ, swimming, water balloons, pinata and cake and ice cream. Besides it being a little hot it was a great afternoon. It's really nice living close to family to celebrate days like these together. When we got home Nick and I gave the boys their presents from us. . .

New bikes! They were both super excited until they realized it only took 2 pedals to get across our deck, so we took them down to the elementary school playground and let them really try them out. I really love Spencer's simple wooden, no pedal "Skuut" bike. It's just his speed and requires some balance, by the time he's ready for a 2 wheel bike he won't even need training wheels. There they are my two little boys who are anything but little anymore!

Well Prepared

Today if there was an emergency (fire, flood or earthquake) how prepared would you be? You may have stored some food water and a first aid kit but what would you do for entertainment while you ate canned peaches and granola bars? Well fortunately for the Oliver family we've got Carson. This morning while I was in the shower he invaded my privacy to inform me he was packing some "go bags". Later when I was a little more decent I found that the toy room had been dumped upside down and all the backpacks in the house had been stuffed full of toys to take in case of an emergency. I didn't bother to ask him what he planned on playing with while we wait for 'the big one" to hit our home. It seems like everyday is some new big idea. . .I choose "go bags" over climbing and gettting stuck 18 ft. up in a pine tree in the backyard like last week.
